The Palais Galliera
Creation of a permanent Fashion Museum
Paris is the capital of fashion, both fashion design and the luxury industry. Haute Couture is part of its identity. For more than a century, Paris has been home to the most prestigious designers.
Exhibitions dedicated to fashion and organised by various cultural organisations thrive and enjoy a high demand from the public. And yet, Paris does not have a permanent museum with collections presenting the history of fashion.
The goal of this major redevelopment project is to give Parisians and foreigners alike year-round access to a selection from the Palais Galliera’s vast collection, retracing the history of fashion from the 18th century to today, in a unique space.
Fine vaulted spaces which are currently unused will allow more than 120 costumes and accessories to be displayed simultaneously. With the addition of this 600m² space, the Palais Galliera will host a collection of older designs and contemporary pieces. It will showcase the wealth of this historical collection which until now has been hidden away.
The museum will be the first permanent fashion museum in France. It will join an exclusive international circle of venues celebrating fashion and its historical significance.
